Dr. J. D. Ballam is Director of
the Diploma in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford, England.
He has been an author for twenty-five years, and a lecturer for
seventeen. He has published fiction, non-fiction, scripts for stage
and broadcast, poetry, reviews, and many academic works.
His books include a novel, The Toymaker and a critically-acclaimed
memoir, The Road to Harmony. His work has appeared in the national
press, and over the years has been translated into six languages.
He is a frequent guest on BBC radio. Besides English Literature,
his teaching focuses primarily upon fiction and script-writing.
He is a highly-qualified and experienced tutor and mentor for new
authors, and many of his students have gone on to professional careers.
He is particularly interested in working with aspiring scriptwriters,
especially in the areas of comedy and drama, but also in other genres.
In fiction and non-fiction, his interests include literary and experimental
fiction, memoirs, travel- and life-writing.
