Last night leading music video director Shane C. Drake scored the top honor at MTV's Video Music Award, VIDEO OF THE YEAR, For Panic! At The
Disco's "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies." Now as the leading director in
the video world, he is moving on to feature film, announcing his first
project, Ramsey Dean's "The CoolKids."
The million-selling band received an astonishing 5 nominations
including Video of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best New Artist, Best
Group Video and Best Rock Video. Drake also directed the band's previous video "It's Better If You Do," developing their award-winning image. The band re-created a special live homage of these videos in their performance at the VMAs last night.
Drake is one of the most sought after video directors, whose work has been instrumental to platinum-selling stars such as Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, and Less Than Jake. Through his association with so many key bands and internet sites like MySpace, he has already achieved a Cameron Crowe-like status for his work, where even a DVD compilation of his work is available.
Atchity Entertainment International's Mike Kuciak, along with Ken
Atchity and Chi-Li Wong (AEI also has "Ripley's Believe It Or Not,"
with Tim Burton and Jim Carrey) are producing. The film is described as a quirky teen comedy chronicling the misguided misadventures of a modern day Holden Caulfield.
"The VMAs are the Oscars for the younger generation and to have a
director like this who understands the market will be immeasurable in
this film's appeal. I've never been more excited about a soundtrack!" says AEI's SVP Kuciak.
The CoolKids is part of a new paradigm in filmmaking that includes
original songs placed in the film for the soundtrack, original
merchandise featured on key characters, and an internet strategy that
allows the characters to take on a life of their own before and after
the film.
The script is taken from the teen novel of the same name by AEI client
author Ramsey Dean.
"The CoolKids" script is out to stars and financers.
