AEI is a one-stop full-service literary management and motion picture production company, delivering a full array of development, sales, marketing and promotion, producing, licensing, and merchandising services for writers and storytellers who are ready for multimedia global representation within the Book, Film, TV, Music and Product Arenas.  What We Do

Virtually every facet of a literary property can be exploited for commercial gain in all media throughout the world.

At the turn of the millennium, literary assets are among the most valuable assets in the world. AEI assists writers in creating and earning major income from getting his or her story to the right audience in every possible medium.

Incorporated in June, 1996, by Ken Atchity and Chi-Li Wong, AEI has made millions of dollars in sales for our clients, put nonfiction books and novels on national bestseller lists and major films in development and production.

MAJOR FRANCHISES

AEI has sold, and is producing, six major franchises:

literary management The original bloodsucker walks the earth again in screenwriter Ian Holt’s "The Un-Dead," the official sequel to Bram Stoker’s "Dracula."

  • EDITING and DEVELOPING
    AEI has become known for its editorial and development skills, which it provides to new clients as a matter of course.
    For writers with good ideas who are not yet ready for management, AEI has a sister company, Writer's Lifeline, Inc., to provide a bridge to the professional level. Writer's Lifeline currently services over 100 clients.

  • BOOK PUBLISHING

    • FICTION
      When a novel is judged ready for the marketplace, AEI directly sells the novel to publishers (primarily in New York), and either before, after, or simultaneously, offers their dramatic rights to the television or motion picture industry (primarily in LA) - as well as to other industries, including audio, electronic, etc. Although AEI sometimes sells foreign publishing rights to domestic publishers, increasingly AEI is handling foreign either directly or indirectly via Baror International to maximize revenues to the client.

      In addition AEI works with outside and in-house publicists to market the properties, and serves as producer of the motion pictures based on them. Successful AEI novel deals have included Steve Alten's Meg, (Disney; Doubleday-Bantam), The Trench (Kensington), Domain, Goliath, Resurrection, and The Loch; John Scott Shepherd 's Henry's List of Wrongs (New Line Cinema); Rugged Land -- an AEI-Zide-Perry production, Ripley's Believe-It-Or-Not (Paramount-Alphaville ["The Mummy"] producing with AEI), James Michael Pratt's The Last Valentine (St. Martin's Press, Literary Guild), The Lighthouse Keeper, and Ticket Home (both SMP); and S.N. Palmer's The Danger Zone (Lawrence Marks Productions, Mira). Other novels are listed here

    • NON-FICTION
      When nonfiction books are judged ready for the marketplace, AEI directly sells them to publishers; and either before, after, or simultaneously, offers their dramatic rights to the television or motion picture industry -as well as to other industries, including audio, electronic, etc.

      Although AEI sometimes sells foreign publishing rights to domestic publishers, increasingly AEI is handling foreign via Baror International to maximize revenues to the client.

      In addition AEI works with outside and in-house publicists to market the properties, and serves as producer of the motion pictures based on them. Successful AEI nonfiction deals have included Governor Jesse Ventura's I Ain't Got Time to Bleed (Villard), Do I Stand Alone? (Pocket), Gary and Joy Lundberg's I Don't Have to Make Everything All Better (Viking; Book of the Month Club), and Writers Lifeline editor Julie Mooney's The Amazing World of Ripley's Believe It or Not, Joyce H. Brown's Heavenly Answers to Earthly Questions (Dutton NAL); and Clinton Greenleaf's Gentleman's Guide series. Other nonfiction books are listed here

  • TELEVISION PRODUCTION
    SCREEN- AND TELEPLAYS
    When screenplays are judged ready for the marketplace, AEI places them directly with studios or with a co-producer who can assist in assembling cast and/or director before approaching financers or broadcasters. Upon sale, AEI retains a management commission.

    AEI also serves as producer on the project, and contracts to receive producing fees. When a project moves into development, AEI refunds its commission to the writer. "The Amityville Horror-The Evil Escapes" and "Shadow of Obsession" both appeared on NBC; "The Madame's Family: The Truth about Canal Street Brothel" appeared on CBS.

  • MOTION PICTURE PRODUCTION
    When our clients' motion picture screenplays are ready for the marketplace, AEI places them directly with studios or with directors, stars, or senior producers who can assist in "packaging" cast and/or director before approaching financiers (like Warner Bros., New Line, Fox, or Disney) or broadcasters (HBO, Showtime, etc.). Upon sale, AEI retains a management commission. AEI serves as producer on clients' projects, and contracts to receive producing fees directly from the financing company. When producing fees are received, we refund our commission to our clients.

    John Scott Shepherd's "Joe Somebody," directed by John Pasquin, and starring Tim Allen, was released by Fox 2000 and New Regency December 21, 2000. Shepherd's "Life or Something Like It," directed by Stephen Herek, starring Angelina Jolie and Ed Burns, appeared in 2002.
